As I watched the coverage of the Election, there were allegations and stories of voter suppression in various areas across America. There were hour long lines, some 4-6 hours waiting. Other ways in which voters were suppressed were those voters who were of color. Whether their votes be questioned of possibility of being fraudulent or confusing information on what types of ID were allowed, insinuating that the wrong one would be considered voter fraud which results in jail time.
Despite all these scare tactics and attempts to suppress the voters, we the American people were not going to go out that easily. We stood in those long lines, we brought our various forms of ID's, we will not be silenced, our voices and votes will be heard and they were. There were record numbers of voters across America. That goes to show when the certain individuals and groups try and keep us from doing one of our Constitutional Rights as an Americans, we fight back and make sure we endure any kind of attempt of suppression to fulfill that right to vote.
On a happier note I am very pleased with the turnout of the voting and most of all with the result of the Election. I found it quite funny that both swing states Michigan and Wisconsin were in favor of Obama over the Republican candidates that are residents and current and former acting Government Officials. (Mitt Romney-former Governor of Massachusetts;Paul Ryan State Rep. of Wisconsin) If your own state doesn't want you why should America?
Moving on after the win, the President's speech was filled with great promise and forward mobility of the United States of America. He addressed the voter suppression by thanking those who went out to vote and also stated that "and by the way we have to fix that" regarding those long lines that many endured during Election day. Here is the VICTORY speech in it's entirety:
What a motivating speech and I for one can't wait to see what changes and progression this country makes in the next four years. Personally I will sleep tight knowing that I will continue to receive loans and scholarship money to further my education as a non-traditional student and a person whose parents can not afford the tuition. (As Romney would say," borrow money if you have to from your parents") I can also rest easy knowing that, as one of the 47% of people,I will continue to receive the EIC (earned income credit) each year, which helps out immensely.
I am happy that the Election is over if not for the outcome but for the end of the political ads, campaign videos, and speeches. I am so glad not to hear "and I approve this message" anymore, I sure needed a break from that. Until 2016, here's to the next great, forward moving four years.
